the process of finding part time work
HOME.... I am home!! I have been home now for 2 weeks, so I am still settling in and figuring out my new routine. In my search for work, I have only been able to land a few part time jobs that can't gaurantee many hours. I really am perfectly happy with it because the main thing I want to do while I am home is spend time at the local nursing home. Since they don't have any job openings, I will be volunteering, and my part time job situation seems to work out perfect for that!! So, things are working out like I was hoping (and actually praying for). I mean, sure, getting a full time job at the nursing home would be more ideal, but God's ways are not always the easy ways. The bottom line is, I am still able to be where I believe God wants me.
struggle. Nothing comes easy, including God's will. The root of my struggles always points to my PRIDE. Thoughts like, "I am 26 and living at home with my parents" or "I am a college graduate working jobs I could have done in high school" can really make me feel like I suck. My pride wants to chase after what is acceptable and prove that I haven't failed. The thing is, I know that these thoughts are not right. I do my best to avoid entertaining them but it has proved to be quite a fight to keep them quiet. another struggle. Maybe part of that problem stems from my poor discipline of setting apart time with God. I don't know why this can be so hard. I long to do it. I love what I learn and how I grow every time I do it. I desire God to be center. Somehow, though, everything else takes priority. Maybe it's because I know God is always there. I have full confidence in His promise, and I abuse it.
humbled. I finally escaped all the distractions and sat down yesterday with God. Just Him and Me. We focused on being humble. To be frank, God has humbled me so much this past year. He has peeled layer after layer of pride, and just when I think I've found a good balance, He peels more away. Yesterday, Luke 1:51b brought me back to the Lord's feet. "He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts." My Portals of Prayer devotional pointed out that Jesus "came to turn the world upside down and inside out. He came to strike down the mighty, strong, rich and powerful who trusted in themselves."
change. I don't want to trust in myself. Lord, take away my inmost thoughts that say I am too good to work part time. I want to do it Your way. free. It's incredible the freedom I am walking in today. I am amazed at the way God loves me--at the way He can so effectively address exactly what has left me feeling so unsettled. I am amazed that He continues to give me peace as I seek Him in this amazing adventure of life.
