Genesis 5
Each week, apart from listening to the main speaker, we take some time to have what is called "Bible Overview." This week we learned something so exciting from a geneology chapter. I don't know about you, but I have always skipped over these boring chapters, but did you realized that Genesis 5 fits in with the Bibles main theme (the main theme being to encourage man to have a relationship with God)?!?
So back in the day, names had significant meaning that tied to the person's identity or a historical event that occured. Keeping that in mind, check out Noah's geneology:
Adam = Man
Seth = Appointed
Enosh = Mortal
Kenan = Sorrow
Mahaladel = the Blessed God
Jared = shall come down
Enoch = teaching
Methuselah = his death shall bring
Lamech = the desparing
Noah = rest & comfort
Put it together and we get, Man appointed mortal sorrow, the blessed God shall come down teaching. His death shall bring the desparing rest and comfort. Wow. Even a geneology in Genesis directs us to the cross! Pretty incredible, don't you think?
